Hand out Pi Day carols to the audience, and find a musical teacher or student to lead a sing-along. Go to the music page\u2026<\/h5>\n<p>\u00bb Use the event to announce the winners and give prizes to the students behind the top Pi Day projects.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<h5><a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-302 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.teachpi.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/sing.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"88\" height=\"38\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nLead your class in the\u00a0<strong>singing of Pi Day carols<\/strong>, or have a musically-inclined student lead the way. Find several songs\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.teachpi.org\/music\">here<\/a>.<\/h5>\n<p>\u00bb Many schools choose 1:59 to begin their singing revelry. This is, of course, Pi Minute (3\/14, 1:59).<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<h5><a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-339 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.teachpi.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/compose.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"153\" height=\"37\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nAsk students to compose an original\u00a0<strong>song, poem, or piece of art<\/strong>\u00a0about Pi Day or the number pi. Hold presentations\/exhibits, and present any artistic awards, on Pi Day.<\/h5>\n<p>\u00bb How about a \u201cPi-ku\u201d poetry contest? (Think Haiku.) For example:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Unending digits\u2026<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Why not keep it simple, like<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Twenty-two sevenths?<\/strong><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<h5><a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-314 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.teachpi.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/groove.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"131\" height=\"37\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nPlay pi-themed\u00a0<strong>songs over the P.A. system<\/strong>\u00a0between classes, to get people in the Pi Day spirit. We\u2019re talking about classic hits that relate to Pi Day, as opposed to actual Pi Day carols.<\/h5>\n<p>\u00bb Dutch Fork H.S. in Columbia, SC played \u201cAmerican Pie\u201d and \u201cSugar Pie, Honey Bunch\u201d over the speakers during passing periods on the big day.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<h5><a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-295 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.teachpi.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/read.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"37\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Read your students a Pi story<\/strong>, such as \u201cSir Cumference and the Dragon of Pi,\u201d by Cindy Neuschwander. Or choose a selection from a more heady work, like David Blatner\u2019s \u201cThe Joy of Pi.\u201d<\/h5>\n<div><\/div>\n<h5><a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-335 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.teachpi.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/birthday.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"161\" height=\"39\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nSing\u00a0<strong>\u201cHappy Birthday\u201d to Albert Einstein<\/strong>, who was born on a blessed Pi Day in 1879.<\/h5>\n<p>\u00bb Independent Day School in Tampa, FL chooses the Pi Minute, 1:59, to belt out this tribute.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<h5><a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-313 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.teachpi.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/film.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"92\" height=\"40\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nFor extra credit, encourage small groups of students to\u00a0<strong>make a short film<\/strong>\u00a0about pi. Suggest both music videos and live-action skits.<\/h5>\n<p>\u00bb Two seniors at Downington H.S. West in Philadelphia filmed the story of shopping for pie ingredients at the grocery store, baking the pies, and then, in artful slow-mo, a pie-in-the-face fight, set to a variety of songs that included Chicago\u2019s \u201c25 or 6 to 4.\u201d<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<h5><a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-280 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.teachpi.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/draw.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"110\" height=\"34\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nCompile a recipe book of pies and desserts, from parents and colleagues, and\u00a0<strong>hold an art contest<\/strong>\u00a0for a pi-themed book cover. Encourage the recipe donors to bring in actual examples!<\/h5>\n<p>\u00bb Arlington M.S. in Poughkeepsie, NY turned this recipe book project into a charitable one: 90 homemade pies, quiches, and pizzas (with accompanying recipes) were donated to a local food shelf.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<h5><a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-338 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.teachpi.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/cheer.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"111\" height=\"33\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nAt a school-wide Pi Day assembly, hold a\u00a0<strong>school spirit contest<\/strong>\u00a0to see which grade can shout \u201c3 point 1 4 1 5 9!\u201d the very loudest. Or, try a longer chant. (see below)<\/h5>\n<p>\u00bb The sixth grade beat the older classes to claim the Warrior Spirit Stick at Stephen Mack M.S. in Rockford, IL in 2003.<br \/>\n\u00bb Here\u2019s an example of a good, loud school chant. It can be responsive, where each line is yelled by a different grade, and then all grades shout the final line, inserting their own number for maximal school-spirit effect.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We love Pi Day to the core! March 14th is 3 1 4!<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Here\u2019s where Math gets really fun! Pi starts 3 point 1 4 1!<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Let\u2019s make Pi Day come alive!
